According to the Merck Manual, because nerve fibers overlap in the dorsal ganglia, a painful signal from any of these organs can be felt anywhere between the ear and the belly button, including the arms. This is accompanied by chest pain, headaches, and dizziness. It can develop gradually, but in some cases it becomes life-threatening. If you see someone with facial swelling plus chest pain, this needs emergency evaluation, not a wait-and-see approach.
